State Troopers in PA show Impressing Numbers for Drug Seizures

According to Pennsylvania State Trooper reports there has been over 100 lbs of fentanyl and heroin seized between April 1st and June 30th across the state of Pennsylvania. The second quarter of 2019 has brought $11 million of harmful substances off the streets. The heroin alone was worth $2.7 in value and fentanyl at over $500 thousand.

These two harmful drugs are responsible for the current opioid crisis our nation has been fighting for the past half of the decade. Many of those who seek treatment in Florida come from Pennsylvania.

Across PA, there have been devastating death tolls contributed to fentanyl and heroin. In 2015-16 the increase of overdose death by fentanyl rose by 364%. Specifically in Westmoreland County, PA there were 367 deaths from Jan. 1 2016- until July 1, 2019. Devastating numbers for a county to withstand. This is not the only county facing such discouraging statistics caused from fentanyl either, Allegheny County from 2016 to 2018 has recorded,1287 deaths attributed to fentanyl. The public are praising the work of the state troopers of Pennsylvania. Every drug raid and seizure saves lives.

Heroin and fentanyl were not the only drugs seized by police in this past quarter in Pennsylvania.

Other illicit substances and estimated totals are:

38 lbs of methamphetamine, estimated street value: $384, 700

25 lbs of cocaine, estimated street value: $539,675

1,385 lbs of marijuana, estimated street value: $4.1 million

Col. Robert Evanchick, the commissioner of PA’s State Police said in a statement, “Significant drug seizures result from routine traffic stops as well as in-depth investigations involving several law enforcement agencies. Our continuing interdiction efforts underscore the department’s commitment to stopping drug smugglers and dealers in Pennsylvania.”

Significant drug busts that happened within the region during the second quarter included:

Heroin estimated at $2 million street value in a traffic stop was seized from an SUV, the woman driving was from Philadelphia and was pulled over in Somerset County. This incident happened in May of this year.

In March 2019, there was over 20,000 stamped bags of heroin hidden in an SUV driven by a Philadelphia man on the state’s turnpike in Mt. Pleasant Township.

In Greensburg two New York men were arrested for allegedly attempting delivery of more than $200,000 street valued worth of marijuana into the state. There were 75 one pound vacuumed sealed bags that were discovered after a traffic stop at the New Stanton interchange on the turnpike.
