Overdose Deaths in the North East Still Rampant

Everywhere else too, for that matter

We know many of our treatment center clients come from the North East, there is a drug problem all throughout our nation and it is a fact that many are coming down to South Florida for the proper addiction treatment needed. It is stories like these that remind us why we are seeking the proper help. This could be situations anyone of us could be in if we didn’t make the decision to seek help.

This past weekend in Pittsburgh, there was a night of partying that ended horribly wrong for a group of friends. Three people died and four were immediately transported to the local hospital for overdose treatment. The Pittsburgh Police Department want to let everyone know how quickly drugs can go from fun to deadly. Three families lost their children, brothers, and sisters from one night of partying? It is too dangerous when it comes to life or death.

All within the same city block paramedics responded to multiple overdose calls. So it was apparent there was a “bad batch” of drugs localized that were claiming lives over the weekend. When the first two initial calls came in, the police tracked back the men to the apartment they had been partying and this is where they found the five other people overdosing. If they hadn’t shown up when they did, more people would have died rather than receiving the help.

“The victims — including three people who died and four who remain hospitalized — appear to have been at the same venue together, and then to have gone to a second location at a private residence where they apparently overdosed on drugs,” Pittsburgh police said.

“The victims all took the narcotics at the same time and in the same location.”

All the victims and others who had overdosed had on the same orange bracelet, so they were all at the same concert, club or party taking the illicit drugs that killed them and their friends. If the police hadn’t responded when they did there would have been other tragedies.

“But police said they are concerned about a potentially lethal batch of drugs in the community.”

“We remind the public not to use drugs,” the department said. “Simply put: You do not know what’s in that drug.”

Partying is not all fun and games, there are people losing their lives daily to drug overdose. It is important that if you or someone you know are engaging in this type of “fun” know the risks and seek the help needed.
